The researcher or moderator in a qualitative research plays a key role in collecting and interpreting the required data. He or she will be the interviewer, facilitator, recorder and observer of the data. The same will apply in interpreting the data. In the focus group research, there were two researchers in each focus group.
Hyde (2005, 2590-2591) also adds that one was the facilitator in the interview while the second one audio-recorded the interview and noted down the order of the participants. These moderators were specifically selected for their roles based on their capability in interviewing the youth and how much comfortable they were about tackling sensitive issues like sex. They also possessed degrees in one social science field and prior training and experience in interviewing.
