Missouri should come up boldly to embrace the national standards as it would not harm the current standards’ objectives but will only enhance them in a more appropriate manner than applicable today. Such standards will only set the least level of attainment, which will avoid unconventional compromising of standards by setting too high or too low. However, upper students can strive to attain higher limits under other motivational factors.
The students, as well as their teachers and parents, will be able to gauge themselves against the common standards to establish where exactly they stand instead of assuming they are doing well, and they are not. Essentially, the National Standards would bring more benefits than people would currently fathom, as even psychologists do understand that change or any form of uncertainty is hardly embraced despite the riches it carries.
